WELCOME TO SOLES FOR AFRICAN CHILD FOUNDATION

Welcome to Soles for African Child Foundation, where we strive to provide basic needs and help shine a ray of hope to the less fortunate in the urban and rural areas in Kenya.

About us

SOLES FOR AFRICAN FOUNDATION was formed in 2015 with aim of providing affordable shoes to disadvantaged children from both informal settlements and rural parts of Africa, beginning from Kenya. The decision to choose shoes was informed by the background life of the co-founders, who rose from less privileged childhood, walking barefoot throughout their junior school, to where they are currently.

The Foundation intention is to reach as many children as possible by provide them with a pair of shoes, these shoes has a life span that they can last hence need for replacement. The mission of the foundation would be meaningless if the same child given a pair of shoes become shoe less after one year.

The foundation is seeking to empower these families with sustainable source of income so that they are in a position to re-purchase new pair of shoes and also feed themselves since it is more likely that a family who cannot afford a pair of shoes is hardly able to afford two meals a day.

Vision

To put a pair of shoes at every disadvantaged kid’s feet throughout Africa

Mission

To provide a pair of shoes to every disadvantaged child in Africa

SOLES FOR AFRICAN CHILD FOUNDATION STRATEGIC PLAN 2021/2025

The foundation is proposing to provide every family with a flock of 5 hens (Improved indigenous chicken) together with one bag of feeds. This will enable every family to generate $1000 income in one year which is good enough to change a fortune of someone who was living below $1 a day. The foundation will aggregate families and assist them start micro-saving groups (Table banking) that will see their fortune double in the near future. This initiative is going to see many families rise from poverty and live a better life.

About the founders

Nicholas O. Walaga is a researcher, based in Nairobi Kenya. Born in a humble family in Mfangano island of lake Victoria, Nicholas has fought against all odds to rise to high academic achievement. He is an alumnus of USIU Africa graduate class. Having been raised up in abject poverty (only had first pair of shoes in life at the age of 14 years when joining senior school), benefiting from University scholarships from a family in England , he has found pleasure to set aside a part of his earning in order to buy shoes and donate to children undergoing what he experienced in his dismal days.

Zack Obuya is an Insurance consultant based in Nairobi, Kenya. He, like Nick, is an alumnus of USIU graduate class, having been sponsored by well-wishers. Born in a village in western parts of Kenya, Zack has fought against all odds to rise to  where he is today .Having met at the university for the first time, they realized they shared a lot of background similitudes. This has since grown into a brotherly bond that informed their formation of this foundation.

Cynthia Livoli is a social welfare consultant in Nairobi, Kenya.
Born and brought up in the informal Mathare Slams of Nairobi, she has fought against odds to achieve meaningful education to raise her status to where she is in the society.
To Cynthia, The secret to living is giving. She believes that , by contributing to the well-being of others, our communities and the world at large, we find more meaning in life.

To her, the test of our progress is not whether we add more to the abundance of those who have much; it is whether we provide enough for those who have too little.
